Sharp's Ridge Memorial Park is one of the premier birding spots in the Knoxville area. It is also the site of the J. B. Owen overlook, named after a long-term leader of the Knoxville birding community. In 2004, KTOS formally adopted the park as a litter-free area and has since held many clean-up days. We continue to be involved in the efforts to maintain the ridge as an outstanding birding location.
Seven Islands State Birding Park is a premier birdwatching location just east of Knoxville. KTOS has been involved in several projects at the park over the last few years including providing funding for a Chimney Swift tower and providing much of the labor that went into building a pond overlook structure. KTOS leads monthly birdwalks at the park on the 4th Wednesday of every month.
Support of Bird Research, Education and Conservation -KTOS annually gives out several grants to individuals and organizations that are doing bird research, putting on bird related educational programs or involved in conservation efforts for birds. Usually grants are awarded in the fall. To apply, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Send us a brief description of your project and what you would use the money for. Most grants are around $500 but have been higher.
